We've been trying different root beers for a long time!
Here, we'll rate them all! I'd love to rank them from best to worst but we simply don't get to try new ones as often as I'd like. I hope some of our opinions help you pick your next root beer!
For some added context of what we consider "good" root beer - I prefer when you can taste the cane sugar, but there's still a root taste in there. He likes his root beer on the semi-sweeter side, closer to cream soda. Neither of us likes aspertame or really any other kind of sickly sweet taste.

Our second go-to, always a classic! A little sweet for me but I'm accustomed to it.

Not quite a favorite, but definitely not bad!
Me: 7 Stars! Him: 6 Stars!
Abita Root Beer
Not very sweet, very forward "root" taste but not overwhelming!
Me: 8 stars! Him: 7 stars!
VitaLife Prebiotic Root Beer
Not good at all. I want to keep trying these speciality not-sodas to find a good one but hoo boy. This is just sweet with no real root beer flavor at all.
Me: 0 stars. Him: 0 stars.
Red Rock Root Beer
A pretty good one! It leans a little sweet for me, but not aspertame-y!
Me: 7 stars! Him: 8 stars!
Boylan Root Beer
Also a pretty good one! This one tastes extremely similar to the Red Rock, but with the flavors switched. Not as sweet, more root-y.
Me: 8 stars! Him: 7 stars!
Jones Root Beer
This one was meh. It wasn't very sweet at all, even with the boasted real cane sugar on the bottle. It mainly tasted like muted ginger, which neither of us really likes in a root beer. Not nasty, but I wouldn't choose it again.
Me: 5 stars. Him: 6 stars.
Reed's Root Beer
This was insane. This was not root beer. I do not care what the can says. "Real Ginger" uh yes it tastes like Pure Ginger. And not even in a ginger ale way this shit tasted like black licorice??? My husband drinks absinthe, and this tasted like straight up absinthe. We agreed we can't even rate this one on a scale like the others because it just does not taste like the others. Root Beer Georg was an outlier and should not have been counted.
